CAUTION! When slicing bread with a knife be careful not to place your fingers in line with the cutting action of the knife. Do not allow children to use this product. Handle with care.
Every guide is hand crafted by me in my wood shop located in Lincolnton GA. I'm 74 and this is a hobby not a money grabbing business. I am continually striving to come up with new ideas to provide you with the best bread slicing guides available. I build various style guides that allow you to slice horizontally or vertically. Plastic or bamboo is never used for guide building material.
By simply adjusting the bread tray, the guide allows you to slice from 1/8 to 1 inch bread slices vertically quickly and easily. The minimum thickness you can obtain has a lot to do with the density and softness of the bread you are cutting. The guide is easily assembled or disassembled by removing three Philips head screws located on the side and back. The guide can be stored flat as shown in the pictures.
Tools are not required to adjust slice thickness.
Where your knife contacts the guides surface as you finish slicing, I have placed solid end grain oak for durability.
The guides cutting slots for the knife are 1/8 inches wide.
The slicing guide ships with a anti slip mat that is placed under the slicing guide to stop it from sliding on your countertop while slicing.
The guide will last a lifetime with proper care. Just clean with a damp cloth. Do not soak with water.
The finish used is food grade mineral oil that meets US FDA requirements for food contact surfaces and is safe for all food preparation surfaces. The penetrating quality of food-grade mineral oil brings out the depth of grain in wood and helps prevent drying and cracking. You may apply more mineral oil or cutting board oil as the wood dries over time.
All shipments are shipped FREE. Your order will ship the same day or the next business day from when I receive the paid order. Transit time is usually 2 to 3 days.
If your slicing needs are different than those listed above, message me your required thicknesses or loaf width. It’s quite possible I can custom build a guide to meet your specific needs.
Videos are available showing some of my guides being used by going to “You Tube” and searching for “Mystery Lathe”.
A few words of advice:
Make sure your bread knife blade is long enough to allow you to cut back and forth so that the knifes tip will not come out of the guides knife slot. The outside over all width of this 7-inch loave width guide is 8 inches. I prefer a 12-inch-long bread knife
The bread needs to rest on your counter and cool down to room temperature. I find that the longer it rests the better it will slice. The minimum thickness you can obtain has a lot to do with the density and softness of the bread you are cutting.
Use caution while slicing with a knife to avoid injury. Knife not included with guide.
