NO PLASTIC PARTS….ALL WOOD CONSTRUCTION
This bread slicing guide is perfect for loaves up to 5 1/2 inches wide or under. It helps you slice perfect 3/8 or 1/2-inch bread slices.
To keep the guide from sliding on the counter, silicone tabs are on all eight corners.
I handcraft all my bread slicing guides in Lincolnton, Georgia. This guide is made from solid 3/4-inch oak lumber for the side rails and 1/4-inch veneer for the bread table.
The 5 1/2-inch guide can cut two different thicknesses of bread slices, 3/8 and 1/2 inches, horizontally.
My goal was to make it easy to use, affordable, durable, easily stored, and most of all slice straight slices of bread every time.
Videos are available showing the guide in action on YouTube. Search for “Mystery Lathe.”
Here are a few tips for using a horizontal slicing guide:
I’ve sold hundreds of my horizontal slicing guides across the USA, and 99% of the people who use them are very happy. After selling over 2,000 of my various style horizontal and vertical slicing guides, I’ve found that if you have trouble slicing bread with your hands, I recommend a vertical guide. It takes more skill to slice horizontally than vertically. But if you have good hand-eye coordination, horizontal slicing is the fastest and easiest way to slice perfect slices of bread. Don’t forget that if you’re not satisfied with your guide, you can return it for a full refund within 30 days of purchase. The old saying “Practice makes perfect” applies to learning how to use this guide.
IMPORTANT: A bread knife with a blade length of at least 12 inches is recommended for slicing. A shorter knife won’t work. The knife isn’t included with the order.
Just a friendly reminder to keep your guide out of water or the dishwasher. If it gets a little dirty, just wipe it off with a dry or damp cloth.
Now, I know you’re curious about cutting yourself on the guide, but please be careful. It’s sharp, and it can cut bread and you too. It’s best to keep it out of reach of children. If you’re worried about getting hurt, don’t use the guide. Just return it for a full refund. I want you to be totally safe and satisfied.
If you have any questions, issues, or problems with your guide, feel free to give me a call or text at 315-868-3453 or email me at “mysterylathe@gmail.com”. I’m here to help you out. Don’t be surprised when I just say hello upon answering. This is my personal cell phone, and I’m 78 years old. This is my hobby, not a money-making business.
By the way, the guide is finished with food-safe mineral oil. Here are the approximate dimensions:
- Bread tray inside width: 5 1/2-inches (maximum width of loaf)
- Overall width: 7-inches
- Height: 2 1/2-inches
- Length: 11 1/2-inches
- Weight: 1 lb. 6 oz.
I hope this helps!

Works great! Now we have even slices of sourdough bread. It’s low profile and easy to store if you don’t want to leave it on the counter.

Bill + wood + lathe = PERFECTION !! Hunting for a bread slicer that could deliver the thin slices I needed for my Peasant Bread was an odyssey. Plastic micro bits and bamboo slivers are now just an unpleasant memory...This remarkable work of art (truly), is a wonder !! He tells us in the details that it's not his fault if we cut ourselves---true....But what about the weight we gain from our new bread making obsession? With this slicer, there'll be no stopping me !! Have to go now, as-a-matter-of-fact, to slice my latest loaf.......................thanks, Bill, for your kindness.
