Horizontal Adjustable Bread Slicing Guide

Every bread slicing guide is made by myself in Lincolnton, Georgia out of 3/4" Poplar lumber for the side rails and 1/2" Birch Veneer for the bread tray.

If you want a bread slicing guide that works and not spend a lot of money here it is. This design uses the same concept as my other horizontal guides in that the knife is guided by two slots as it cuts the bread. The difference being in its method of adjustability for slice thickness. I have chosen to discontinue this version and lowered the price.

My goals were to make it easy to use, affordable, durable, easily stored and most of all slice straight slices of bread every time. It also needed to be compatible using either an electric or bread knife. Plus be usable by right or left handed people.

The pictures show a loaf of bread that measures 5 1/2" wide x 7" long x 6 1/2" tall. By selecting the size spacers you need to cut your bread to the correct thickness, this slicing guide can cut from 1/8" to 3/4" slices of bread in 1/16" increments. The set up only takes minutes to accomplish.

This slicing guide with back stop differs from the standard guide in the following way. It has a removable stop in the slicing tray. This stops loaf sliding due to the pressure of the knife cutting through the loaf. I designed this option after a customer voiced a concern about their ability to hold the loaf securely. After watching the above video you can make your decision which option is right for you. The stop slips in and out of the slicing guide bread tray easily, and support the loaf firmly. The stop works no matter if you are right or left handed. Or, you may choice to not use the stop at all.

There are 4 anti slip pads on the bottom of the slicer so that it will not move around as you slice your bread.

I feel I accomplished all of my goals in designing and building this bread slicing guide. After you try it I think you will agree. You can spend a lot more for other guides that will not work any better than this one. In fact I think this one works better than all others I have tried. It will last a lifetime with proper care. Just clean with a damp cloth. Do not soak with water.

A few words of advice:
The guide is over 7" wide and will not work with a short 8" bread knife. I use one that is 12" long. They are available on line or most home good stores. Our electric knife has a blade length of 7 1/2" and works fine since it does the sawing, not you as in a bread knife that needs to saw back and forth.

It has been my experience that even though the guide has a 1/2" slice thickness measurement for example, the actual thickness can very slightly. Loaf density or pressure applied by the cutter does effect the slices thickness by a small amount above or below the measured 1/2". As you gain experience in the use of the guide, you will be slicing your bread like a pro every time.

The bread needs to rest on your counter and cool down to room temperature. We find that the longer it rest the better it will slice. We let ours rest for at least 4 hours before slicing.

Use caution while slicing with a knife to avoid injury. Knife not included.

Finished used: None. You may apply the finish you desire if you think it needs a finish.
