This guide is designed to accept bread loaves up to 5 1/2" wide. If your loaves are wider than 5 1/2" I make an "Extra Wide Horizontal Guide" that accepts loaves up to 6 1/2" wide.
By raising and lowering the guides slicing table any thickness of bread may be sliced from approximately 3/8" to 3/4" using a bread knife or electric knife. Notice in the pictures the saw cut lines on each side board of the guide. The lines are there so that you can set the depth equally and easily when adjusting your bread slicing thickness. The adjustment is quick and easy to accomplish yet still slices perfect slices of bread.
All shipments are shipped USPS Priority mail and insured by the USPS for loss up to $50. Your order will ship the same day or the next business day from when I receive the paid order. Transit time is usually 2 to 3 days.
This guide does not have any protective finish applied to the wood. It may be used as is or you may apply the finish of your choice when you receive it.
There are anti slip pads on the bottom of the slicer so that it will not move around as you slice your bread.
This bread slicing guide is made by myself in Lincolnton, Georgia out of solid 3/4" poplar lumber.
This guide is also offered in solid 3/4" Oak at a higher price. What is the difference between the two types of wood you might ask? Oak is much heavier and denser than Poplar. Oak is much stronger than Poplar. Oak lumber cost almost twice as much as Poplar lumber.
Should I buy this Poplar slicing guide over the Oak slicing guide? That's like asking should I buy a Ford or a Lincoln. Both slicing guides, Oak or Poplar will do the job and should last a life time if cared for properly. It all comes down to personal preference and cost. All of my guides work on the same principle of aligning the knife even with the bread. So it really doesn't matter if you spend $18 or $40 they all will slice perfect slices of bread.

My goals were to make it easy to use, affordable, durable, easily stored and most of all slice perfectly straight slices of bread every time. It also needed to be compatible using either an electric (see IMPORTANT not below) or bread knife. Plus be usable by right or left handed people.
*****IMPORANT***** The guides cutting slots for the knife are 3/16" wide. If you are going to be using an electric knife, make sure the blade assembly thickness is less than 3/16". Make sure you check the thickness at the tip of the blade where the two blades are connected together. If it measures 3/16" or greater you will not be able to get the blade into the slot to slice your bread. We use a Cuisinart electric knife and it fits the slot without any problem.
*****IMPORTANT***** The guide is over 7" wide and will not work with a short 8" bread knife. I use one that is 12" long. They are available on line or most home good stores. Our electric knife has a blade length of 7 1/2" and works fine since it does the sawing, not you as in a bread knife that needs to saw back and forth.
I feel I accomplished all of my goals in designing and building this bread slicing guide. After you try it I think you will agree. You can spend a lot more for other guides that will not work any better than this one. In fact I think this one works better than all others I have tried. It will last a lifetime with proper care. Just clean with a damp cloth. Do not soak with water.
A few words of advice:
It has been my experience that even though the guide has a 1/2" slice thickness measurement for example, the actual thickness can very slightly. Loaf density or pressure applied by the cutter does effect the slices thickness by a small amount above or below the measured 1/2". As you gain experience in the use of the guide, you will be slicing your bread like a pro every time.
The bread needs to rest on your counter and cool down to room temperature. We find that the longer it rest the better it will slice. We let ours rest for at least 4 hours before slicing.
Use caution while slicing with a knife to avoid injury. Knife not included with guide.
The guide comes completely assembled. Simply loosen the four wing nuts with your fingers to adjust the bread tray up or down. Align the tray with the lines on the two sides so it is equal distance from the knife slot and hand tighten the wing nuts. You are ready to slice. Tools are not required to make the adjustment.
Finished used: None. You may apply the finish you desire if you think it needs a finish.
