This premium slicing guide is made out of solid Oak and finished with food grade mineral oil. In place of the 1/2 inch veneer bread tray found on my less expensive guides, I have used solid Oak milled down to a thickness of 1/2 inch. The side rails are also solid Maple with a thickness measuring 3/4 inch.
The guide is designed to cut three different thickness of bread, 3/8 inch, 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch quickly and easily horizontally. The loaf width can be up to 5 1/2 inches wide.
CAUTION! When slicing bread with a knife be careful not to place your fingers in line with the cutting action of the knife. Do not allow children to use this product. Handle with care, knives are very sharp.
The slicing guide ships with a anti slip mat that is placed under the slicing guide to stop it from sliding on your countertop while slicing. If your mat wares out you can purchase one locally.
I personally hand crafted this premium bread slicing guide in Lincolnton, Georgia from solid 3/4 inch oak lumber for the side rails and solid 1/2 inch Oak for the bread table. It will last a lifetime with proper care. Just clean with a damp cloth. Do not soak with water.
The finish used is food grade mineral oil that meets US FDA requirements for food contact surfaces, and is safe for all food preparation surfaces. The penetrating quality of food-grade mineral oil brings out the depth of grain in wood and helps prevent drying and cracking.
All shipments are shipped USPS Priority mail. Your order will ship the same day or the next business day from when I receive the paid order. Transit time is usually 2 to 3 days.
If your bread thickness needs are different than those listed above, message me your required thicknesses. It’s quite possible I can custom build a guide to meet your specific needs.
Videos are available showing the guide being used by going to “You Tube” and searching for “mystery lathe”.
If you ever have any questions, issues or problems with your guide please call or text my cell phone: 315-868-3453 or email me at "mysterylathe@gmail.com". Give me a chance to make things right. Don't be surprised when I just say hello upon answering. This really is my personal cell phone. I'm 73 and this is my hobby not a money grabbing business.
A few words of advice:
****IMPORTANT***** The guides cutting slots for the knife are 3/16 inch wide. If you are going to be using an electric knife, make sure the blade assembly thickness is less than 3/16 inches thick and 7 1/2 inches long. Make sure you check the thickness at the tip of the blade where the two blades are connected together. If it measures 3/16 inches or greater you will not be able to get the blade into the slot to slice your bread. We use a Cuisinart electric knife and it fits the slot without any problem.
*****IMPORTANT***** The guide is over 8 inches wide and will not work with a short 8 inch bread knife. I use one that is 14 inches long. They are available on line or most home good stores.
It has been my experience that even though the guide has a 1/2 inch slice thickness measurement for example, the actual thickness can very slightly. Loaf density or pressure applied by the cutter does effect the slices thickness by a small amount above or below the measured 1/2 inch. As you gain experience in the use of the guide, you will be slicing your bread like a pro every time.
The bread needs to rest on your counter and cool down to room temperature. We find that the longer it rest the better it will slice. We let ours rest over night before slicing.
Use caution while slicing with a knife to avoid injury. Knife not included with guide.
